So I tend to be the one out of my group that buys the most DLC( Down Loadable Content) which in some ways isn't bad. There is a large amount that is just awful and I wish at those times that guitar hero was made into that game that it was intended to be. In other words the DLC that is for rhythm games is released weekly and amazes me that Rock Band, Guitar Hero and Lips can get so much music licensed constantly that makes me wonder why the Xbox team don't work on separating it completely from regular DLC (hell they have a download on the XBLM to search through the complete collection for these titles why not make it required to get the songs). When you then get through that crap you are brought to a more interesting side of crap DLC. The it-was-already-in-the-disc-DLC. What do I mean by that? While there are a few games that I can actually say that have these it would be games like Resident Evil 5, Brutal Legend, Bioshock 2 and also to this list are most likely titles made by Visceral Games. The difference between the first three games and the Visceral Games titles is that VG titles DLC helps you out giving that extra nudge that was needed in your opinion while the other games are guilty of making you downloading a patch that will unlock the content. Why is that I need to go through the process of paying for more of the game I own? Did I not just bur Brutal Legend for $100 and now need to pay for 3 maps that were also on the disc for an extra $5. While on this subject though of paying more than you need to Assassin's Creed 2 is one game caused me to get really angry about the subject. They had 2 "corrupted files" which was a nudge to DLC. Seriously why the fuck did we need this shit what did we ever do to ubisoft? The fact that that was planned as DLC from a certain point in the development cycle it just seems wrong. Maybe if it was this really awesome thing that they couldn't sneak in due to that it would take too long to finish and the game needed to be out before the estimated time of this awesome piece being finished. Something like Gears 2 (this is the first real good bit about DLC) where there was a part where Dom and Marcus are given the option of stealth or attack. It couldn't be put in due to time or something (maybe inconsistency due to the queen reference) but it was an nice add-on to buy or the DLC that was just maps there was a nice feel to it knowing that they were adding more experience to there game instead of planning to make it as vague as it was to then plan on filling in the plot with DLC (although some would thank them). I just feel that we spend enough that we shouldn't be bombarded with DLC to make your pony look nicer or to unlock something that was on the disc. But if you're going to do that Fuckwad move give the owners of a brand new copy codes to go and buy it like Bioware with the two titles ME2 DA:O where launch DLC was given to owners of the new copies and it punished those who saved $5 on getting a trade-in by making them spen more that $30 on the DLC that would've only been $5 more.
It's obvious that DLC has failed already but it will be how companies will get more money and while my complaining won't do anything to them just think about the next time you are looking at the DLC of a game you own is it really worth it. Will it give me a better Co-op experience(Crackdown)? Will it offer more multi player options at a reasonable price(Rainbow Six Vegas)? Or. Did I just pay for something that I should have straight up(Bioshock 2)
